Nottingham Tower To Create 2k Construction Jobs
There will be more than 2,000 new constructions jobs available in Nottingham if plans for a huge tower in the city centre are given the go ahead.
CODE, the prospective developer, intends to build the 24-storey building where Base 51 used to be on Glasshouse Street, the Nottingham Post reported.
It will accommodate 1,260 students, as well as have a convenience store, café, community police hub, reception area, and 24-hour changing, toilet and shower facilities for emergency services.
Although CODE initially proposed a 38-storey building for 1,500 students, this was opposed by local conservationists. However, under current plans, the local construction sector will receive a significant boost if the proposed are agreed to.
A spokesperson for CODE revealed there is a consultation underway on the latest plans, allowing the public to offer their feedback.
They noted that CODE has been awarded ‘Best Student Provider’ in the UK for numerous years, adding: “We would ensure that the scheme would be well managed and would make a positive contribution to the local environment and community.”
It is not just students in Nottingham who would benefit from the building though, but those look for UK construction jobs. What’s more, it has been stated that there will be a number of permanent management and maintenance roles available once the building is operational.
Preston is another area that is going to add lots of construction roles to the sector soon, after work on a new £45 million leisure and entertainment complex recently got underway.
The building project is expected to create 200 full-time construction positions, as well as apprenticeships, work placements, and training opportunities.
